Health & Nutrition
Red meat is naturally rich in protein, low in salt and provides us with vitamins and minerals that contribute towards good health and wellbeing.
Red Meat and a Balanced Diet
Red meat is naturally low in salt and a rich source of protein and minerals such as iron and zinc. Iron from red meat helps form healthy red blood cells – and combining animal sources of iron with plant-based sources of Vitamin C helps us absorb that iron more easily. Red meat is also a rich source of vitamins including Vitamin B12 which helps us to combat tiredness and fatigue as well as many other B vitamins that help with normal energy production to ensure a healthy immune system.

Make it your choice
Healthier ways
with Scotch
Choose leaner cuts of beef, lamb or pork when you are at the butchers and trim any excess fat from the meat before cooking – but leave some to add to the flavour. You can then cut off any remaining fat on the meat before serving and switch up your sides with a fresh salad or some grilled veggies.
Make it go further
Less fat,
more protein
Advancements in breeding and modern butchery techniques have helped to reduce the amount of fat in red meat that you buy these days. Lean red meat also goes well with other protein sources too – see Meat in the Middle – which helps make ingredients go further.
Nutrient-rich red meat
Red meat is nutrient-rich and has a role to play in a healthy, balanced diet thanks to being a natural source of protein, iron, zinc and B vitamins. No single food contains all the nutrients needed for good health, so our aim should be to include a wide variety of food in our diet.
